The Center for Hands-On Learning has been conducting professional development throughout New Mexico and the Southwest for over 10 years. We have worked with schools, districts, systemic initiatives, colleges and universities, cities, and corporations to provide training in math and science to teachers, pre-service teachers, and parents. We are happy to design kit/training packages to meet your specific needs and billing requirements.

Please contact us for references or any additional information.

hands-on We want attendees to learn by doing--just like their students. It’s one thing to hear or read about an activity, it’s completely different to actually do it.
relevant We prefer to do trainings around kits or materials that teachers will actually be using. A general “hands-on math” workshop doesn’t help teachers answer that old question, “Great, but what do I do tomorrow?”
full of content Sometimes teachers don’t try new methods because the content is unfamiliar. During our trainings we make it a point to provide content background so everyone feels comfortable with the material.
fun As teachers, we’re all too familiar with the many incredibly BORING workshops being offered. We know that everyone learns better when the sessions are fun so we try to create an enjoyable, risk-free learning environment (plus we always bring chocolate--it never hurts!!).
conducted by experienced presenters/teachers Our presenters have been there and have done that. They don’t present “pie in the sky” techniques that will never work in the real world.

a source of professional development Standards, research, and best practices are included in our training because it’s important to make sure teachers continue their development as professionals.
